"Completion of six years of Digital India "

  • Prime Minister addressed a virtual event to mark the completion of six years of Digital Indian programme.
  • Data and demographic dividend combined with India’s proven tech prowess presents massive opportunity for the country, and exuded confidence that this decade will be ‘India’s techade’.
  • Also talked about various schemes of Digital India programme, including Diksha, eNAM, eSanjeevani solution for telemedicine, DigiBunai and PM SVANidhi scheme.

Major objectives of this initiative are listed below:

  • To provide high-speed internet in all gram panchayats.
  • To provide easy access to Common Service Centre (CSC) in all the locality.
  • Digital India is an initiative that combines a large number of ideas and thoughts into a single, comprehensive vision so that each of them is seen as part of a larger goal.
  • The Digital India Programme also focuses on restructuring many existing schemes that can be implemented in a synchronized manner.

Key Projects of Digital India programme:

  1. Digital Locker System aims to minimize the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online.
  2. MyGov.in has been implemented as a platform for citizen engagement in governance, through a “Discuss”, “Do” and “Disseminate” approach. The mobile App for MyGov would bring these features to users on a mobile phone.
  3. Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Mobile app would be used by people and Government organizations for achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission.
  1. eSign framework would allow citizens to digitally sign a document online using Aadhaar authentication.
  2. The Online Registration System (ORS) under the eHospital application has been introduced. This application provides important services such as online registration, payment of fees and appointment, online diagnostic reports, enquiring availability of blood online etc.
  3. National Scholarships Portal is a one stop solution for end to end scholarship process right from submission of student application, verification, sanction and disbursal to end beneficiary for all the scholarships provided by the Government of India.
  1. DeitY has undertaken an initiative namely Digitize India Platform (DIP) for large scale digitization of records in the country that would facilitate efficient delivery of services to the citizens.
  2. The Government of India has undertaken an initiative namely Bharat Net, a high speed digital highway to connect all 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats of country.

Diksha (Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing.):

  • It serves as National Digital Infrastructure for Teachers. All teachers across the nation will be equipped with advanced digital technology.

eNAM,

  • It was launched on 14th April 2016 as a pan-India electronic trade portal linking Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) across the States.

eSanjeevani solution for telemedicine

  • It is a telemedicine service platform of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

DigiBunai

  • DigiBunai aids the weavers to create digital artwork and translate the saree design to be loaded to the looms. DigiBunai™ is a first of its kind Open Source software for Jacquard and dobby weaving.

- PM SVANidhi scheme:

  • It was launched by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for providing affordable loans to street vendors.
