India to Add 100 More Earthquake Observatories by 2026
- Union Minister for Earth Sciences mentioned that India is going to have 35 more earthquake Observatories by end of this year.
- The announcement was done at the Joint Scientific Assembly of International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA)–International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (IASPEI).
- Indian subcontinent is considered as one of the world’s most disaster-prone areas in world.
International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA)
- It is one of the eight Associations of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG).
- It is a non-governmental body funded through the subscriptions paid to IUGG by its Member Countries.
- IAGA is concerned with the understanding and knowledge that result from studies of the magnetic and electrical properties of:
- Earth's core, mantle and crust
- Middle and upper atmosphere
- Ionosphere and the magnetosphere
- Sun, the solar wind, the planets and interplanetary bodies
International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (IASPEI)
- It is one of the eight Associations that comprise the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG).
- IASPEI's' structure and its many scientific activities are categorised by the following themes:
- Earth Structure and Geodynamics
- Earthquake Generation Process – Physics, Modelling and Monitoring for Forecast
- Earthquake Hazard, Risk and Strong Ground Motion
- Earthquake Source Mechanics
- Education and Outreach
- Heatflow
- Seismological Observation and Interpretation
- Tectonophysics and Crustal Structure
