Progress of implementation of PM-KUSUM and Rooftop Solar Programme Phase-II
- The progress of implementation of PM-KUSUM and Rooftop Solar Programme Phase-II has been revied by Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy.
- The installation of rooftop solar will bring down the electricity consumption of the households and save electricity expenditure.
- The Government, in February 2019 approved Phase-II of the “Grid Connected Rooftop and Small Solar Power Plants Programme‟ for achieving a cumulative capacity of 40 GW RTS plants by 2022.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahaabhiyan (PM Kusum Yojana):
- PM-KUSUM is a flagship scheme under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India to solarise Indian farms.
- The objective of the scheme is to increase farmers' income, provide a reliable source for irrigation & de-dieselise the agriculture sector.
- Its aim is to provide clean energy to more than 10 crore farmers in the country.
Components of PM Kusum:
- Component A: Setting up of 10,000 MW of Decentralized Ground/ Stilt Mounted Grid Connected Solar or other Renewable Energy-based Power Plants.
- Component B: Installation of 17.50 Lakh Stand-alone Solar Agriculture Pumps
- Component C: Solarization of 10 lakh Grid Connected Agriculture Pumps of individual pump capacity up to 7.5 HP are targeted to be solarised by 2022.
Cost-distribution:
- Central Government- 60 % of the total cost
- Banks- 30 % of the total cost
- Farmers- 10% of the total cost
Rooftop Solar Programme:
- The Government, in December 2015, approved a program “Grid Connected Rooftop and Small Solar Power Plants Programme‟ for the installation of 4,200 MW RTS plants in the country by the year 2019-20.
- In 2019, the Phase-II of the programme was approved.
- It aims to achieve a cumulative capacity of 40,000 MW from Rooftop Solar Projects by the year 2022.
- In Phase-II, to implement the programme, DISCOMs and its local offices will be the nodal points for implementation of the RTS programme.
- The solar photovoltaic technology based RTS projects for the generation of electricity will be deployed under the Programme.
Objectives:
- To promote grid-connected RTS in all consumer segments
- To bring DISCOMs at forefront as key drivers for rapid deployment of RTS.
- To create awareness, capacity building, human resource development, etc.
- To promote sustainable business models.
- To create an additional RTS capacity of 38000 MW in the country by 2022
- To promote domestic manufacturing of solar cells and module
