Role of youth in boosting "Vocal for local" campaign
- The youth of the country can play a big role in “vocal for local” and to make India become self-reliant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.
- Addressing the annual PM’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) rally at the Delhi Cantonment, Mr. Modi said steps are being taken to empower the Corps and a high-level review committee has been formed.
Vocal for Local
- Vocal for local does not mean that we should stop buying products which are manufactured in other countries or stop our import.
- It means that we have to give sufficient importance to the local markets and protect our local economy in such a way that we can be self-sufficient.
- ‘Vocal for Local’ is becoming the most trending phrase which means that all 1.3 billion Indians to be “vocal for local” — meaning, to not just use domestically made products but also to promote them.
- It is sought to be an extension of the ‘Swadeshi Movement’ idea conceived during the freedom struggle.
- The movement, which started in the early 1900s, called for the use of locally-made products.
