Van DhanVikasYojana

  • The various activities and initiatives under “Sankalp Se Siddhi – Mission Van Dhan” of TRIFED were reviewed.
  • As per TRIFED, under Van DhanYojana, the establishment of 37,872 VDVKs has been sanctioned against the Sankalp Patra target of 50,000 VDVKs in the Tribal area, which are subsumed into 2274 VDVK Clusters directly benefitting 6.76 Lakh beneficiaries.
  • Around 1200 VDVK Clusters are operational.
  • The target of setting up 50,000 VDVKs incorporating 10 Lakh tribal entrepreneurs has to be completed by 30th July 2021.

Van DhanYojana:

  • The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) launched the Van Dhan scheme in 2018.
  • It was intended to improve the tribal income through the value addition of tribal products.
  • It is a component of the The ‘Mechanism for Marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) through Minimum Support Price (MSP) & Development of Value Chain for MFP’
  • The scheme will be implemented through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs as Nodal Department at the Central Level and TRIFED as Nodal Agency at the National Level.
  • This initiative targets livelihood generation for tribal gatherers and transforming them into entrepreneurs.
  • The idea is to set up tribal community-owned Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Clusters (VDVKCs) in predominantly forested tribal districts.
  • A VDVK Cluster shall constitute of 15 tribal SHGs / Van dhan Kendras, each comprising of up to 20 tribal NTFP gatherers or artisans i.e. about 300 beneficiaries per Cluster.
  • 100% Central Government Funded with TRIFED providing Rs. 15 lakhs for each 300 member Van Dhan Kendra Cluster.

  • The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched TRIFED in 1987.
  • TRIFED has its key objectives of promoting tribal art & craft, hand looms and set-up tribal community owned Minor Forest Produce (MFP)-centric multi-purpose Van Dhan Vikas Kendras for the benefit of tribal artisans and Minor Forest Produce gatherers of the country.
  • TRIFED's MSP for MFP & VanDhan program is in line with the ""The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers ( Forest Rights Act, 2006 )"".
