World Competitiveness Index
- In June 2021, the World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY) 2021 was published by the Institute for Management Development (IMD).
- India maintained the 43rd position in the annual World Competitiveness Index.
- Switzerland (1st), Sweden (2nd), Denmark (3rd), Netherlands (4th), and Singapore (5th) are in this list.
- Singapore was at the top of this list in 2020.
- Taiwan reached the top-10 for the first time
- Among the BRICS nations, India is ranked second after China (16), followed by Russia (45th), Brazil (57th) and South Africa (62th).
Systems and factors:
- The ranking, produced annually by the IMD World Competitiveness Center.
- It publishes rankings for 64 countries
- This year, the rankings also consider the economic impact of the pandemic across the globe.
- It measures the prosperity and competitiveness by examining four factors --
- Economic performance,
- Government efficiency,
- Business efficiency, and
- Infrastructure.
- WCY was first published in 1989.
